SQUINT

Normally when we look at an object or a person, both our eyes
point at it. It is achieved by very fine muscles, which
control the eye movements. If these eyes lose this fine
balance of movement, they point in different directions and we
call them squint-eyed.
There are many reasons for squinting. The treatment also
changes according to the cause of the squint. In any case it
is very important to get early treatment for squint. Ask your
doctor for details. Some types of squints cause reduction of
the eyesight if not treated early. Hence treating squint at
the right time is very important as far as preserving vision
is concerned.
Basically there are three ways of treating squint.
1. By eye exercises,
2. By spectacles and prisms and
3. By operation.
In most of the instances the eyes can be treated successfully
and squint corrected fully. A detailed examination of the
patient is necessary to make a diagnosis. The treatment can be
started only after that.
Squints are best corrected at or around the age of two years.
Development of vision starts very early and so proper
alignment of the eyes is essential for the development of all
the aspects of binocular vision. | |
